What we did here
The brief was one sentence: we are not moving. Everything else followed from that. A main floor with a bedroom, a full bath, a laundry and a level entry, so the second story becomes optional rather than necessary.
Doorways widened where the framing allowed, and where it did not we said so instead of promising it. One opening carries a point load that would have needed a beam and a new footing to widen, and the honest answer was that three inches was not worth what it took.
A 1968 house means federal lead-paint work practice throughout, including at every window and door opening we touched. Containment, specific cleaning, and verification affect both the schedule and the number, and both were in the proposal.
