What we did here
Two rooms that had been four: a laundry closet, a powder room, a back hall, and a dining room nobody had eaten in since the house was bought. Reclaiming three feet from the dining room is what turned a hallway with hooks into a room that works.
The office needed sound separation because the person using it is on calls all day and the mudroom is the loudest place in the house. A solid-core door with a proper seal did more than the extra layer of drywall did, which is usually true and almost never what people expect.
The laundry moved from a closet to a real room with a pan, a floor drain, and a dryer duct that runs four feet to the outside instead of eighteen through two elbows.
